Why Eat Well?
Eating good food is the key to great health.
If you eat healthy food, you will have more energy, grow bigger and stronger, get sick less often, look better, feel better, sleep better and live longer too!
Some foods are good for giving you energy.
Some foods help you grow.
Some are good for fighting sickness.
Some foods are good for your eyesight, others are good for you teeth and bones and some are good for your skin.
You Are What You Eat
How do you feel after eating a lot of sweets or junk food?
You likely feel tired. That's because these foods are not good for your body.
A lot of sugar can give you energy at first, but that feeling soon goes away and you may feel sleepy. Sugar is also bad for your teeth.
Junk food tastes good but it is full of fat, salt and sugar so it will make you tired, fat and sick.
When you get sick, does your mum or dad give you a cheeseburger or a bag of sweets to eat?
No! Of course not! Likely, they will make you healthy foods like soup or oatmeal to help you get better.
Drink up!
Most of your body is water! So drink up! It's good for every part of your body and if you don't get enough, you will feel sick and sleepy.
Drink 5-8 cups of liquids each day. You can drink water, juice, milk or clear soup.
Try not to have drinks with too much sugar, such as cola, chocolate milk or store-bought juice. Even fresh juice has a lot of sugar so try to have no more than one cup a day. Water is best.
